Book Talk on “BLAZE A SON’S TRIAL BY FIRE: A TRUE STORY”

The 12th edition of the Book Talk series organized by SKVM’s NMIMS was held on December 27, 2022, where the discussion revolved around “BLAZE A SON’S TRIAL BY FIRE: A TRUE STORY”. Co-authored by Mrs. Nidhi Poddar and her husband Mr. Sushil Poddar, the book explores the exceptionally courageous journey of their multi-faceted son Divyansh Atman, who even in his difficult battle with the big C, managed to fast forward his life’s timeline and live each day to the fullest. Mrs Nidhi Poddar is an Economics graduate and home maker turned author, while Mr Sushil Poddar has been in service for the past 27 years and is presently the Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai.

The talk was moderated by Dr. Sunayana Sarkar, Assistant Professor, MPSTME, Civil Engineering Department, NMIMS and Ms. Deepakshi Paliwal, 4th year BTech Civil Engineering, MPSTME, NMIMS. Their assessment of the book highlighted Divyansh’s success story and his amazing ability to circumvent his predicaments and reach his purposes undeterred and against all odds.  Since 27th January was also Divyansh’s 25th birthday, the discussion verged on a celebration of his indomitable spirit, quest and zest for life and his many facets as a son, student, friend, compatriot or even a creative person. Divyansh was alumnus of MPSTME, Computer Engineering department. The talk highlighted the instances, which illustrated how a path of opportunities can be carved out even in the middle of adversities.

Mr Poddar stressed upon stereotyping of Cancer patients in our society and the travails that have to be borne both by the patient and the care giver. To his parents, narrating Divyansh’s exemplary story and his triumph over medical and social stigmas and psychological upheaval seemed like his posthumous contribution towards the society in terms of educating people about what exactly one expects from people around, while enduring suffering and pain associated with the medical condition. He stated this as their underlying reason for writing the book so that they could bring out the positive instances of Divyansh’s tryst with destiny.

During the interactive Q&A session, Mrs Nidhi elaborated how Divyansh continues to make her proud even today as his story inspires many and his poetry touches souls. She confessed that even after leaving this realm of the world, he has continued to influence her by inspiring her to write the book. She mentioned that the true meaning of success for Divyansh was always the journey of attaining it and not the ultimate goal.

Excerpts from the book were read out by Dr. Sarkar, which included an eclectically delightful blog piece that Divyansh had written, about similarities between music and food. Scholarships instituted by his high school and US University alma maters were mentioned. The event ended with several members of the audience asking questions that addressed both intent of the authors and content of the book.
